Our Board of Directors

The Nikiski Senior Center is governed by a volunteer board of community members who are committed to the long-term health and mission of the organization.

Myrna Dyer

President, Seat A (Jan 25 – Jan 27)

Myrna moved to Alaska from California in 1967. She lived in Kenai with her husband and daughter where she owned her own business. She moved out to Nikiski about 10 years ago.

Len Niesen

Vice President, Seat E (Jan 25 – Jan 27)

Len has been an Alaskan since 1979. In 2007, she and her husband built a cabin in Nikiski and then built their retirement home in 2013 and moved permanently. The Niesens owned and managed an office machines company with offices in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Kenai for 26 years. Len handled the administrative, contracts, and financial side of the business. Since retiring, she enjoys time with her grandchildren as well as researching genealogy and volunteering with several local organizations.

Denise Tank

Secretary, Seat B (Jan 25 – Jan 27)

I have lived in Nikiski for 9 years. I love this community, and definitely love the Nikiski Senior Center! I enjoy participating regularly in programs offered by the center, such as exercise, craft and cooking classes as well as activities and field trips. I have served on numerous boards of non-profit organizations for more than 25 years. I find it rewarding to be able to actively give back to an organization that is a big part of my life. I am willing and able to work with others as a board member to serve the membership of this center and strive to improve the lives of all seniors in our community.

Sue Kanour

Treasurer, Seat D (Jan 25 – Jan 27)

Sue and her husband Bill moved to Nikiski to be closer to their daughter and two grandkids. She fished for salmon and halibut in the Cook Inlet starting in 1975. She owned a boat and permit and fished each summer until 1998. She has an education in business and accounting with experience in grant management, budget and accounting.

Wayne Ogle

Board Member Seat I (Jan 26- Jan 28)

Wayne has been an Alaskan resident since 2004. He retired from the Coast Guard after 28 years of service. He was the Public Works Director for Bethel and Kenai. And also worked in the offshore oil industry in Houston for 10 years building floating production platforms. He represented Nikiski on the Borough Assembly for 6 years, two serving as president. He enjoys traveling, fishing, reading, plays & music and trying new foods.

Brian Poziembo

Board Member Seat G (Jan 26- Jan 28)

In April 2022, Brian retired as a mechanic from the elevator industry after 35 years in Hawaii. His wife and him moved to Nikiski and built their home on Island Lake. Brian is a Veteran of the Marine Corps, Marine Reserve and the Army National Guard. He served on the Boards of both his church and the school where his children attended. Since retiring, he has enjoy being active in the Alaska Republican Party, fishing and enjoying life in Alaska.

Anita Gordon

Board Member Seat C (Jan 25- Jan 27)

Anita Gordon has served on the Nikiski Senior Center Board as Secretary in 2020. She has a passion for working with Seniors and involved in Republican Party. One of her hobbies is making cards. Anita is married and have been in Alaska for 40 years. Her life is centered around her faith in Christ, her family second, and all other things come after that.

Joe Ross

Board Member Seat F (Jan 26- Jan 28)

Joe moved to Alaska in 1982. Enjoys hunting, fishing, snow machines, and pretty much everything in the great outdoors. “I want to be a board member so I can help do what’s right for our members”.

Marie Fitts

Board Member Seat H (Jan 26- Jan 28)

After 30 years in Multicultural Ministry, I retired to Alaska in 2014. Nikiski Senior Center has become home to me. I look forward to supporting the programs, vision and purpose of the Center.
